"A Broken Heart Is Immortal"

about

Volume 2 of the Splintercat recording series, this song was written and recorded in the shortest interval I've personally experienced- only spanning 4 months from inception to completion. It has to be one of the more fun songs to play (I would love to see a Guitar World magazine break-down), not to mention one of the more demanding vocal performances throughout my repertoire. All around, top to bottom, this is quintessential state of the art for me as of current. If I died, it'd be a great epitaph.
Nods go out to Will Moore on the bass and Charles Wicklander on organ, as I have rarely experienced such instant gratification from folks that embrace the song so readily whilst taking it to whole new levels with their honest craftsmanship and immediate talent. Awesome job by Colin J Nelson on drums (as well as deft engineering and involved co-producing), as he you can tell upon listening just how much tailoring we undertook to take the story places it wanted to go. I am very fortunate to have such able and enthusiastic collaboration from this team.
As for the song itself, I am very grateful to it as well. Thank you, song. It took a lot of care of me as I spent months almost exclusively honing it and referring to it throughout my days. Thanks to Warren Zevon, as always. I like to think he would smile on the line "this Sysiphus is sick of his Rock and Roll". Rest in peace, Mr. Zevon.

lyrics

This broken heart
These smokin' lungs
This frozen moment that goes on and on and on

There's no satisfaction from the distractions I have known
This Sisyphus is sick of his rock and roll

What am I supposed to do with this love
that you gave me? I'm alone
and I don't know what to do with it
I don't wanna give it away
but I'm afraid it'll stay forever
A Broken Heart is Immortal

How do you kill
what will not die?
In this space does anyone hear you cry?
You hold fast to coping
with the hope that it will help you but it won't
'cause it don't got shit to do with love.

What am I supposed to do with this love
that you gave me? I'm alone
and I don't know what to do with it
I don't wanna give it away
but I'm afraid it'll stay forever
A Broken Heart is Immortal

I could leave it behind
Lie to myself
What Hell do I invite with time....denying?

What am I supposed to do know?
How do I break these chains that tether?
A Broken Heart is Immortal.
