Volume 6 of the Splintercat series in collaboration with Colin J Nelson of Her Car Studios.
I was fortunate enough to have the chance to unearth this old ballad I'd written, one that I'd been holding within me for at least 6 years. I wrote it after watching a former lover while she danced- and how that experience was a thematic reminder of a life spent feeling "outside looking in". The song deals with self-perceived alienation in a graceful manner, I think. All around, the song has been- and continues to be- a personal treasure.
I am blessed to have the talented friends that helped this song sound as good as I knew it could. Thanks to all involved, the peers that championed the song across its writing and recording, and thanks for any of you for tuning in.
Also, it should be noted that I couldn't find an appropriate picture size for the track art (Bandcamp apparently doesn't support the size of the standardized "Splintercat" logo anymore). That said, I opted for a picture of the always talented and beautiful Monica Bellucci. Her grace is how this song feels- at least to me anyway. Thanks to her over and over again, and I can't wait to here from her and gladly take her picture down upon request.
Lyrics:
You caught me watching,
you dancing.
Did I blow my chance?
Did I show you my hand?
Do I join the others,
the numbers of would be lovers?
No, I'll stay right here,
with my beer and my fear.
If you'd only dance with me, baby,
I'd show you a thing about love
If you'd only dance with me, baby,
I'd only dance with you.
The band is winding down.
The dancers take their bows.
Now I'll make my move-
what would Rumi do?
I slide off my stool,
tell my legs what to do.
But they head for the exit,
for cigarettes and regret.
If you'd only dance with me, baby,
I'd show you a thing about love
If you'd only dance with me, baby,
I'd only dance with you.

"Blood Red Wine" is the spiritual b-side to my song "Wingman", and an important intrinsic object for future scholars of Casey and Liam to refer to when wondering about their lives in 2013-2016 A.D. Casey Ruff
The song "Summer Palace" makes me wonderfully nostalgic, in that it gives voice to the longings of a certain Age's time and place so poetically. Casey Ruff
